focuses on the complex relationship between place and identity that encapsulates
‘Middletown America’. Like most of the Midwestern rust belt region, Middletown, OH
has experienced a massive economic shift over the past two decades causing strain
on the cities infrastructure. My photography captures what the average citizen sees
on a daily basis relying solely on structural images that reside along and next
to roads, sidewalks, and paths. I explore the serenity found in this in-between
space that the local inhabitants navigate daily, while striving to answer the
question of community and identity that arises within this divergent landscape.
